A. Gudaitis is one of the most important painters who established expressionist tendencies in the modern national painting school. His work was inspired by Lithuania, its nature, people and folk art. The people, birds and other objects depicted in Gudaitis's works are similar to the works of folk masters, i.e. woodcarvers. The faces of the people look like those of wooden sculptures: stern, generalised, laconic, the colour scheme of the paintings is as if drawn from the fabrics of folk weavers.
A. Gudaitis can be called a titan of Lithuanian art, because he took inspiration from the everyday Lithuanian environment, folk art and ordinary people.
